Maggie Holt grew up in the shadow of her father's bestselling horror memoir, 'House of Horrors,' a chilling account of their family's three weeks in the reputedly haunted Baneberry Hall. Despite the book's global phenomenon status, Maggie, who was too young to remember the events, firmly believes it to be a work of fiction. Ghosts, after all, don't exist. When her father dies, Maggie inherits the infamous Victorian estate and returns to renovate it for sale, eager to put the past behind her. However, her homecoming is far from peaceful. Locals remember the book all too well, and figures from its pages begin to emerge from the shadows. More unsettling, Baneberry Hall itself seems to conspire against her skepticism.
