Synopsis

Exiled from his beloved Lochdubh, the perpetually disgruntled and unconventional Scottish constable Hamish Macbeth finds himself in the desolate coastal village of Cnothan, a place as unwelcoming as his new superior, the humorless Detective Chief Inspector Blair. Hamish yearns for his old life, but trouble inevitably follows him. The village's most reviled resident, Dr. Peregrine Jones, a man universally despised for his arrogance and illicit affairs, is discovered brutally murdered – or what’s left of him. His bones are found in a lobster tank, a grisly fate suggesting a deeply personal motive. As Hamish navigates the intricacies of a community rife with secrets and simmering resentments, he must also contend with the amorous advances of a dark-haired lass, all while trying to piece together a case where everyone seems to have a reason to want Jones dead. With no obvious suspects and a killer poised to strike again, Hamish must employ his unique blend of shrewd observation and eccentric deduction to uncover the truth before more lives are lost in this fishy tale of revenge and murder.
