Death of a Glutton

Constable Hamish Macbeth finds his idyllic life in the Scottish Highlands briefly clouded by the arrival of the Checkmate Singles Club at Tommel Castle Hotel. Eight hopefuls, meticulously paired by dating director Maria Worth, quickly discover their matches are anything but perfect. The already strained atmosphere sours further with the arrival of Maria's business partner, Peta, a woman notorious for her gross table manners and insatiable appetite. As romance dissolves into animosity, Peta meets a gruesome end, found dead with a rosy red apple lodged in her mouth. Hamish is left to untangle a complex web of disgruntled guests, shattered hopes, and simmering resentments. Was it a jilted lover, a disgusted diner, or someone else entirely who silenced the gluttonous Peta forever? Hamish must navigate the eccentric personalities of Lochdubh and the hotel guests to solve this perplexing murder, all while pondering his own romantic complications with Priscilla Halburton-Smythe.
