Synopsis

In M.C. Beaton's festive yet fatal whodunit, 'Death of a Snob,' the ever-reluctant Scottish constable Hamish Macbeth finds his holiday plans drastically altered when he accepts an unusual invitation. Gorgeous socialite Jane Wetherby, convinced someone is out to kill her, implores Hamish to join her and an exclusive, eccentric group at her remote island health farm on Eileencraig for Christmas. Despite a nagging cold and a feeling that Jane might be a touch melodramatic, Hamish, with no other plans, agrees. The isolation of the island, combined with the openly hostile locals and the barely civil, snobbish guests – particularly the insufferable Heather Todd – immediately sets an unsettling tone. When Heather Todd is found dead under mysterious circumstances, Hamish realizes his Christmas vacation has become a full-blown murder investigation. The catch? Every potential suspect was supposedly accounted for within the house. As strange occurrences multiply and the holiday spirit sours, Hamish must navigate a complex web of secrets and animosities, all while battling his own ailments, to unmask a killer before Christmas turns truly deadly.
