Synopsis

Set against the backdrop of World War I, "The Mysterious Affair at Styles" introduces readers to Captain Arthur Hastings, convalescing at the grand Styles Court estate, home to his old friend John Cavendish. However, the tranquil English countryside is shattered when the wealthy mistress of the house, Emily Inglethorp, is found dead, seemingly poisoned. Hastings's old acquaintance, the eccentric Belgian detective Hercule Poirot, now a refugee living in the nearby village, is called upon to investigate. With his keen intellect and meticulous attention to detail, Poirot delves into the intricate web of family secrets, motives, and suspicious alibis surrounding Mrs. Inglethorp's conniving new husband, her resentful stepchildren, and other residents of the estate. As Poirot meticulously reconstructs the events leading to the murder, he employs his signature 'little grey cells' to unravel a cunningly devised plot, culminating in a dramatic revelation that launches one of literature's most iconic detectives.
