Synopsis

In the tranquil village of King’s Abbot, scandal and tragedy intertwine. The wealthy widow Mrs. Ferrars dies by suicide, a death shrouded in whispers. The very next day, her fiancé, the esteemed Roger Ackroyd, is found brutally murdered, stabbed in his study. The esteemed local physician, Dr. James Sheppard, discovers the body and, finding himself at the heart of the ensuing investigation, becomes the story's narrator. With a house full of suspects—family members, staff, and guests—each seemingly with an airtight alibi, the case quickly devolves into a perplexing labyrinth. The authorities initially focus on Ackroyd’s missing stepson, Ralph Paton, as the obvious culprit. However, the unexpected arrival of the eccentric, mustachioed Belgian detective Hercule Poirot, recently retired to grow vegetable marrows in the village, shifts the dynamics. Dr. Sheppard, initially a dispassionate observer, finds himself drawn into assisting Poirot as the detective meticulously unravels a web of secrets, deceit, and hidden motives, leading to one of the most astonishing and groundbreaking conclusions in the history of crime fiction.
