Synopsis

Picking up where its chilling predecessor, "Unwind," left off, "UnWholly" plunges readers deeper into Neal Shusterman's dystopian world where teenagers can be 'unwound'—their bodies harvested for parts. Connor, Risa, and Lev, once fugitives, now find themselves at the heart of the resistance movement. Connor struggles with leadership while secretly hunting for Roland, Risa adapts to a new role as a healer, and Lev grapples with his past as a tithe and his uncertain future. A new threat emerges in the form of Cam, the first 'rewound' individual—a Frankenstein-esque creation made from the parts of unwound teens, designed to be the perfect human, yet plagued by the fragmented memories and personalities of his donors. As the lines between life and death, and what constitutes a soul, become increasingly blurred, the protagonists must fight not only for their own survival but for the very soul of humanity itself, in a society grappling with the horrifying implications of its own choices.

Critical Reception

"This riveting sequel powerfully expands upon the philosophical and ethical quandaries introduced in its predecessor, solidifying its place as a cornerstone of modern dystopian literature."
