Synopsis

In a world where humanity has conquered death and the benevolent, all-knowing artificial intelligence known as the Thunderhead governs every aspect of life, the Scythedom remains the sole authority beyond its control, tasked with gleaning (killing) to prevent overpopulation. A year after the dramatic events of 'Scythe,' Rowan Damisch has vanished, resurfacing as 'Scythe Lucifer,' a vigilante meting out justice to corrupt scythes with ruthless efficiency, his actions becoming a whispered legend. Meanwhile, Citra Terranova, now Scythe Anastasia, adheres to a compassionate approach to gleaning, challenging the old order and the brutal methods favored by many. However, her progressive ideals and her very life are threatened as the Scythedom plunges deeper into factionalism and corruption. Old alliances fracture, new enemies emerge, and as the moral decay spreads like a plague, both Rowan and Citra face overwhelming odds. With their perfect world teetering on the brink of unraveling, they wonder if the Thunderhead, the perfect ruler, will finally intervene, or if it will simply observe humanity's self-destruction.

Critical Reception

"Hailed as a masterful continuation, 'Thunderhead' solidified its predecessor's critical acclaim, delving deeper into complex moral quandaries and further cementing Neal Shusterman's place as a visionary voice in speculative fiction."
