Synopsis

In a future where humanity has conquered death, disease, and want, a new order of "Scythes" is established to keep the population in check by gleaning (killing) individuals. This isn't murder; it's a grim necessity for societal balance, and Scythes are revered and feared, living by strict commandments. Citra Terranova and Rowan Damisch, two seemingly ordinary teenagers, are unexpectedly chosen to apprentice under the venerable Scythe Faraday. They must master the "art of killing," learning combat, poisons, and the profound moral weight of their future role, all while adhering to the Scythe code. However, their training takes a brutal turn when they are commanded to glean each other at the end of their apprenticeship, forcing them into an impossible competition where only one can survive, and the other must die. As they navigate a world of power struggles, corruption, and the inherent flaws of a seemingly perfect utopia, Citra and Rowan are forced to confront their own humanity and the terrifying implications of immortality.

Critical Reception
