Synopsis

In Michael Connelly's gripping novel "Desert Star," Detective Renée Ballard is presented with an unprecedented opportunity: to resurrect the LAPD's disbanded cold case unit. Her mandate is clear – solve the most challenging forgotten crimes and bring closure to victims' families. However, there's a significant caveat: success hinges on cracking the murder of the sister of a powerful city councilman who champions her department. Failure means the unit, and Ballard's career, face immediate termination. To achieve this daunting task, Ballard seeks out the legendary Harry Bosch, a former homicide detective known for his relentless pursuit of justice. Bosch, a living legend, has his own compelling agenda: an unsolved family murder in the desert that has haunted him for years, a case he swore to close. As Ballard and Bosch delve into their respective cold cases, the lines between their quests blur, pushing Bosch towards an inevitable and difficult choice, as the killer remains at large and evidence proves elusive. Their collision course promises a high-stakes investigation where forgotten crimes demand unforgettable justice.
