Synopsis

In the serene, verdant village of Three Pines, a community often cloaked in tranquility, spring morning light reveals a horrifying tableau: Clara Morrow, a celebrated local artist, discovers a woman's body splayed amidst her flowerbeds, her neck broken, her eyes wide with a final, unseeing gaze. The victim, who remains an enigma even to those who knew her, is later identified as Lillian Dyson, an art critic whose acid-tongued reviews earned her few friends. Chief Inspector Armand Gamache and his steadfast team from the Sûreté du Québec are called to investigate. As they delve into Lillian's contentious past, they uncover a tangled web of artistic rivalry, long-held grudges, and deeply buried secrets within the close-knit community. Gamache realizes that the truth behind Lillian's murder is not merely a crime of passion but a reflection of the insidious darkness lurking beneath the village's idyllic facade, threatening to expose a truth that has been meticulously hidden, blurring the lines between art, ambition, and deadly deception.
