As the traditional country Christmas celebrations approach in the picturesque Quebec village of Three Pines, a chilling crime shatters the serene winter landscape. No one mourns the victim, CC de Poitiers, a woman universally loathed by her quiet husband, spineless lover, pathetic daughter, and every resident of Three Pines. Her dramatic demise occurs during the annual curling tournament on a frozen lake, where she is electrocuted in full view of the entire village—yet, miraculously, no one witnessed the act. Chief Inspector Armand Gamache of the Sûreté du Quebec is called to investigate this impossible murder. He quickly uncovers a web of dangerous secrets buried beneath the idyllic surface of village life. As Gamache delves deeper into the lives of the villagers, he confronts the complex motivations behind their reserved exteriors. The Quebec winter, while breathtakingly beautiful, is also deadly, mirroring the hidden dangers lurking within the human heart.
