Synopsis

In Louise Penny's compelling thirteenth installment, "Kingdom of the Blind," Chief Inspector Armand Gamache finds himself caught in a labyrinth of deception and self-reflection. His quiet life in Three Pines is shattered when he receives a mysterious letter, inviting him to an abandoned farmhouse where he learns he's been named an executor in the will of a complete stranger. The bequests are so outlandish they defy reason, leading Gamache to suspect the woman was delusional—until a body is discovered, turning the bizarre into the deadly. Simultaneously, Gamache grapples with the escalating investigation into the events that led to his suspension from the Sûreté du Québec. As past actions haunt him, he takes increasingly desperate measures to rectify his mistakes, forcing him to confront his own biases and 'blind spots.' This intricate narrative expertly weaves together two high-stakes plots, challenging Gamache not only to solve a perplexing murder but also to navigate the perilous landscape of his own conscience and the potentially terrible truths hiding within.
