Synopsis

In Louise Penny's 'A World of Curiosities,' Chief Inspector Armand Gamache and Jean-Guy Beauvoir face a chilling return to a past trauma as two siblings, once victims of a brutal murder that united the investigators, reappear in Three Pines. Now adults, their presence raises immediate alarm, forcing Gamache to revisit the deeply scarred memories of their mother's death and question their intentions. Concurrently, a 160-year-old letter from a terrified stonemason surfaces, describing a hidden attic room filled with dread. When the villagers decide to unseal this mysterious chamber, they uncover a 'world of curiosities.' However, Gamache soon realizes the room holds more than just artifacts—it conceals intricate puzzles and dire warnings of vengeance. The act of opening the room inadvertently releases a long-dormant adversary back into their world, threatening not only the tranquility of Three Pines but also the very sanctity of Gamache’s home and his own personal history. This eighteenth installment plunges Gamache into a complex web where past and present collide with dangerous consequences.
