Synopsis

In an alternate 1944, following a devastating D-Day failure and the fall of Russia, half of Britain is under German occupation. The remote Welsh valley of Olchon finds its already isolated existence shattered when young farmer's wife Sarah Lewis awakens to discover all the men, including her husband, have mysteriously vanished overnight. Soon, a German patrol arrives, led by the enigmatic and cultured Captain Albrecht. As a fragile and tense co-existence develops, Sarah finds herself drawn into a wary and complex relationship with Albrecht. He reveals his true mission: not to oppress, but to secure an invaluable medieval art treasure hidden within the valley – a piece of the Ghent Altarpiece. However, the delicate truce is constantly threatened by the escalating pressures of the war, the inherent mistrust between occupiers and occupied, and the looming possibility of a greater, unseen conflict. As the lines between loyalty, survival, and unexpected connection blur, Sarah must navigate a world irrevocably changed, where every decision carries profound consequences.

Critical Reception
