Synopsis

Sixteen years have passed since Caroline Crale was convicted of poisoning her artist husband, Amyas Crale, a man notorious for his philandering. The prevailing narrative suggests a crime of passion, fueled by jealousy over Amyas's latest muse. Now, their daughter, Carla, approaches the legendary Belgian detective Hercule Poirot, convinced of her mother's innocence. Carla, about to marry, cannot bear to begin her new life under the shadow of such a devastating legacy. Poirot, known for his keen insight into the human mind, accepts the seemingly impossible challenge: to solve a cold case based solely on the memories and perspectives of those who were present. He interviews the "five little pigs" – the five other individuals who were at the Crale estate on that fateful day: Elsa Greer, Amyas's young mistress; Philip Blake, his lifelong friend; Meredith Blake, Philip's quiet brother; Angela Warren, Caroline's disfigured half-sister; and Miss Williams, Angela's governess. Each person holds a piece of the puzzle, a biased viewpoint, and a secret. As Poirot meticulously sifts through conflicting testimonies and buried emotions, he reconstructs the past, delving into the psychological complexities of love, hate, and betrayal to uncover the truth hidden beneath layers of time and prejudice. This is a masterclass in psychological suspense, where the motive and means are less important than the truth woven into the fabric of human memory.
