Synopsis

Elinor Carlisle finds her world turned upside down when she inherits a vast fortune from her wealthy aunt, Laura Welman, a fortune that Elinor believes should have gone to her aunt's companion, Mary Gerrard. Adding to the tragedy, Mary suddenly dies, seemingly poisoned. All evidence points to Elinor, who stands to gain immensely and has a clear motive: her fiancé, Roddy Winter, had recently fallen in love with Mary. Accused of murder, Elinor faces trial, and the verdict seems inevitable. Enter Hercule Poirot, who, intrigued by the complexities and human frailties surrounding the case, delves into the past, carefully dissecting testimonies and examining seemingly insignificant details. He uncovers a tangled web of secrets, hidden identities, and long-buried grievances that challenge the straightforward narrative presented to the court, ultimately revealing a meticulously planned crime far more insidious than anyone had imagined.
