In a near-future San Francisco, ex-cop Berry Rydell finds himself unwittingly embroiled in a dangerous retrieval mission. When a courier is robbed of seemingly ordinary sunglasses, it quickly becomes apparent that these are no mere accessories; they are high-tech devices infused with incredibly sensitive, high-value data. A mysterious figure named Warbaby tasks Rydell with recovering them, pulling him deeper into a city brimming with unsettling realities. The investigation draws in SFPD Homicide, leading Rydell through the city's underbelly, including an abandoned, ramshackle bridge serving as a haven for misfits and outcasts. As he navigates this labyrinthine world, he uncovers an intricate conspiracy involving shadowy organizations like the 'Republic of Desire' and a cryptic 'Death Star.' Rydell must decipher the true nature of the stolen data and his own role in this spiraling crisis, all while the fabric of his reality seems to fray, threatening not only his life but potentially the fate of the city itself.
