Biography
Margaret Weis is an American fantasy and science fiction author, best known for her work on the Dragonlance series. Born in Independence, Missouri, in 1948, Weis attended the University of Missouri, graduating in 1970. She began her career in publishing at TSR, Inc. in 1983, where she met Tracy Hickman. Together, they conceived and developed the Dragonlance universe, which quickly became a cornerstone of fantasy literature and tabletop role-playing games. Beyond Dragonlance, Weis has authored or co-authored numerous other fantasy series, including The Death Gate Cycle, Darksword, and Star of the Guardians. Her writing is characterized by strong character development, intricate plotting, and epic scope, often exploring themes of heroism, sacrifice, and the eternal struggle between good and evil. She also founded Sovereign Press, a company that continued to produce new material for the Dragonlance setting.
