Synopsis

Set against the stark, windswept moors of Cornwall in the early 19th century, Daphne du Maurier's 'Jamaica Inn' plunges young Mary Yellan into a world of darkness and peril. Following her mother's dying wish, Mary journeys to the isolated Jamaica Inn to live with her aunt Patience and her intimidating, brutish uncle, Joss Merlyn. From the moment she arrives, Mary senses a sinister atmosphere. The inn rarely welcomes legitimate travelers, and the guests are a rough, secretive lot. Soon, Mary uncovers the horrifying truth: Jamaica Inn is the headquarters for a ruthless band of wreckers and smugglers, led by her own uncle, who lure ships to their doom and plunder their cargo. Trapped in a web of deceit, violence, and murder, Mary finds herself torn between fear and a burgeoning, forbidden attraction to the enigmatic Jem Merlyn, Joss's younger brother. As she desperately seeks to escape the inn's clutches and expose the criminals, Mary must navigate treacherous loyalties and unravel the dark secrets that haunt the desolate Cornish coast, all while fighting for her own survival and a chance at freedom.
