Synopsis

In Elly Griffiths' gripping installment, "The Woman in Blue," forensic archaeologist Dr. Ruth Galloway finds herself drawn into a perplexing case in Walsingham, Norfolk, a town steeped in religious history. The mystery begins when Ruth's friend, the druid Cathbad, experiences a vision of the Virgin Mary, only for a woman to be found murdered the very next day, clad in a blue dressing-gown, mirroring elements of Cathbad's spiritual sighting. As DCI Nelson and his team launch a murder investigation, Ruth, a staunch atheist, is unexpectedly pulled into the spiritual epicentre of Walsingham when an old university friend, now a priest, reveals she's been receiving chilling, anonymous threats targeting women priests. These letters are laced with archaeological references and cryptic allusions to a 'woman clad in blue, weeping for the world.' When a second priest is brutally murdered, the race is on. With Walsingham abuzz with preparations for its annual Easter re-enactment of the Crucifixion, Ruth must navigate a treacherous landscape where ancient beliefs clash with modern crime, unraveling a killer's motive before another life is tragically lost.
