Synopsis

In a post-apocalyptic future where humanity's survival depends on interbreeding with the alien Oankali, a pivotal new being emerges. Jodahs, born to a human mother, is the first and only human-Oankali hybrid to develop into an ooloi, the Oankali's third sex, responsible for genetic manipulation and evolution. Raised as seemingly male, Jodahs' adolescence brings forth astonishing and terrifying powers: shapeshifting, genetic mastery, and the ability to both cure and create disease. Isolated by their uniqueness and the immense, uncontrolled power within, Jodahs faces a monumental task. They must not only come to terms with this unprecedented identity and learn to control their abilities but also bridge the widening chasm between the remaining humans and the Oankali. The fate of both species hinges on Jodahs' success in navigating their complex nature, lest their power inadvertently lead to humanity's final demise.
