Mind of My Mind

In Octavia E. Butler's 'Mind of My Mind,' the enigmatic and immortal Doro has spent millennia manipulating human genetics, breeding a telepathic subrace known as the Pattern. His latest, and potentially most dangerous, experiment is Mary. Born in 1970s Los Angeles, Mary is a young Black woman who awakens to incredible telepathic powers, far exceeding anything Doro has encountered before. While Doro typically orchestrates the lives and deaths of his creations to maintain control and ensure the purity of his breeding lines, Mary possesses an unprecedented capacity to connect and bind other telepaths into a vast, interconnected consciousness. As her abilities mature, Mary inadvertently develops a 'viral' form of telepathy, threatening to link all latent telepaths globally and challenge Doro's millennia-long dominion. The novel explores Mary's struggle for autonomy against her creator, the brutal realities of power, and the birth of a new collective humanity destined to shatter established orders.
