Synopsis

In Peter James's chilling crime thriller, 'Dead at First Sight', Detective Superintendent Roy Grace uncovers a sinister global network built on digital deception and murder. The story unfolds with two men, one in London and another in Key West, eagerly anticipating their first encounters with women they believe to be their soulmates, only to discover they've been devastatingly scammed out of their life savings and that these women never existed. Concurrently, suspicious deaths occur across Europe – a wealthy divorcée in Munich and a seemingly suicidal woman in Brighton. As Grace investigates the Brighton case, a charismatic motivational speaker comes forward, revealing his identity has been co-opted to swindle eleven women online, one of whom is now dead. Grace soon realizes he's stumbled upon the tip of a terrifying iceberg: an expansive, cruel internet scamming operation that ruthlessly eliminates anyone who threatens to expose its dark secrets, forcing him into a race against time to unmask the masterminds before more lives are destroyed.
