Synopsis

Lorna Belling, desperate to escape the suffocating confines of a failing marriage, believes she's found a fresh start in the arms of another man. Her meticulously crafted escape plan, however, is irrevocably derailed by an unexpected discovery: a compromising photograph found on a client's mobile phone, igniting a chain of events that plunges her life into unforeseen chaos. Simultaneously, the tranquil facade of Brighton is shattered when Detective Superintendent Roy Grace is summoned to a gruesome scene – the body of a woman discovered in a bathtub. Initially, the investigation appears to be an open-and-shut case, with a clear prime suspect quickly identified. Yet, as Grace and his team dig deeper, the seemingly simple narrative fragments into a myriad of tantalizingly plausible alternative scenarios, each offering a distinct, disturbing possibility. The truth becomes increasingly elusive, obscured by layers of deception and hidden agendas. In a dramatic and utterly disorienting turn, the case evolves into something far more sinister and horrifying than Grace could have ever conceived, challenging his every assumption and pushing him to the very brink in this gripping mystery of love, betrayal, and deadly secrets.
