Synopsis

Set in 1890s colonial Malaya, "The Ghost Bride" introduces seventeen-year-old Li Lan, whose family faces financial ruin. A shocking proposition arrives from the wealthy Lim family: they wish for Li Lan to marry their recently deceased son, Lim Tian Ching. This bizarre "ghost marriage" is presented as a path to securing her family's future, but Li Lan recoils from the idea. Following a fateful visit to the Lim mansion, Li Lan finds herself inextricably linked to the spectral world. She is haunted not only by her intended ghost groom, who becomes increasingly demanding, but also drawn to the handsome, living heir of the Lim family. As she attempts to navigate this unsettling reality, Li Lan is unexpectedly pulled into the Chinese afterlife, a vivid and bureaucratic realm filled with ghost cities, paper offerings, and vengeful spirits. Aided by the enigmatic Er Lang, a celestial being disguised as a clerk, Li Lan must uncover the dark secrets of the ghost world and the Lim family, before she becomes forever trapped between life and death.
