Synopsis

Chief Inspector Armand Gamache faces a torrent of challenges upon his return to the Sûreté du Québec's homicide department. Catastrophic spring floods ravage the province, a relentless media campaign attacks his reputation, and a desperate father pleads for help finding his missing daughter, Vivienne Godin. Initially, Gamache believes the search for Vivienne should be abandoned, but his own paternal instincts kick in, fostering a profound, perhaps unwise, empathy for the distraught father. As the waters rise and social media vitriol intensifies, Gamache finds himself hounded by the question, 'how would you feel...?' He resumes the search, but in the ensuing chaos, mistakes are made, and a body is tragically discovered. This installment of the 'Chief Inspector Gamache' series plunges him into a horrific possibility and a burning ethical dilemma, forcing him to confront the agonizing question: what would you do if your child’s killer walked free?
