The Miniaturist

Set in a vibrant 17th-century Amsterdam, 'The Miniaturist' introduces eighteen-year-old Nella Oortman, who arrives from the countryside in 1686 to marry the wealthy merchant Johannes Brandt. Instead of a warm welcome, she is met with a cold reception from his austere sister, Marin, and finds Johannes himself to be enigmatic and often absent. As a wedding gift, Johannes presents Nella with a cabinet-sized replica of their grand house, to be furnished by an elusive miniaturist. What begins as a charming diversion soon turns unsettling, as the tiny creations delivered by the miniaturist uncannily mirror and even foreshadow events within the Brandt household. As Nella navigates the intricate, secretive world of her new home, she uncovers betrayals, hidden desires, and dangerous truths that threaten to unravel the family's carefully constructed facade. The miniaturist's mysterious influence grows, forcing Nella to confront the escalating dangers and question whether this uncanny artist is a harbinger of salvation or ruin.
