Synopsis

When the haughty and impeccably bored Marquis of Alverstoke is approached by a distant relation for assistance, he grudgingly agrees to help the unconventional Merriville family make their debut in London society. He finds his carefully constructed world of ennui dramatically disrupted by the arrival of the spirited Frederica Merriville, her lively younger siblings, and a menagerie of pets. Frederica, fiercely devoted to her family's welfare and her brother's engineering ambitions, is far more concerned with navigating the intricacies of the Ton than with Alverstoke's aristocratic charms. As the Marquis reluctantly finds himself drawn into their chaotic yet charming world, he discovers an unexpected warmth and purpose, forcing him to confront his own aloof nature and perhaps, even entertain the notion of love.

Critical Reception

"Praised by literary figures like Antonia Fraser and Joanne Harris, "Frederica" is celebrated as a sparkling, witty, and utterly immersive Regency romance, often compared to the works of Jane Austen for its intelligent effervescence and escapist charm."
