Synopsis

Breathing Lessons introduces Maggie Moran, a perpetually optimistic and well-meaning woman nearing fifty, whose life is a vibrant, if sometimes chaotic, tapestry woven around her husband, Ira, and their grown children. The story unfolds over a single day as Maggie and Ira embark on a car journey from Baltimore to Deer Lick, Maryland, to attend the funeral of a long-time friend. What begins as a simple trip quickly evolves into a series of unexpected detours, both geographical and emotional, pulling Maggie into the lives of past acquaintances and the intricate dynamics of her own family. With an indomitable spirit and an insatiable desire to orchestrate others' happiness, particularly in matters of the heart, Maggie's attempts to meddle, to mend, and to force connections often lead to comical mishaps and poignant revelations. As the day progresses, her boundless energy and deeply ingrained habit of attempting to 'fix' everyone around her are severely tested, forcing her to confront her own desires and the enduring realities of love, loss, and the ever-present yearning for connection.
