Synopsis

Micah Mortimer, a self-employed tech expert and superintendent of his Baltimore apartment building, lives a life meticulously ordered by habit and routine. Content in his predictability, Micah believes he has everything under control until his perfectly circumscribed world is unexpectedly shaken. His long-term "woman friend," Cass, reveals she's facing eviction, and shortly after, a teenager appears at his door, claiming to be his son. These sudden disruptions force Micah to confront his ingrained patterns, challenging his perception of himself, his relationships, and the true meaning of connection. Anne Tyler masterfully crafts a tender, witty, and deeply compassionate portrait of a man learning to navigate the messy, unpredictable currents of life and love, and finding joy in unexpected places.

Critical Reception
