Set in the futuristic world of the Uglies series, 'Extras' introduces Aya Fuse, a fifteen-year-old living in a society where everyone is 'pretty' and reputation is everything. Citizens are ranked daily by their 'feed' — the number of times their content is viewed. Aya is an 'Extra,' stuck on the lowest rung, desperate to gain fame by being the first to discover the next big sensation, the next 'feed.' Her quest for a story leads her to uncover the existence of 'Specials'—a faction thought long gone—and a hidden society that challenges the very foundation of her celebrity-obsessed world. As she delves deeper, Aya is forced to confront the true cost of manufactured fame and the insidious ways her 'perfect' society maintains control, questioning whether exposing the truth is worth sacrificing her chance at becoming an 'elite' and facing the consequences of rebellion.
