In 2025 San Diego, seventy-five-year-old poet Robert Gu awakens from a prolonged battle with Alzheimer's, medically cured but disoriented by a world utterly transformed. The internet, once a discrete entity, has merged with reality, creating a seamless augmented reality (AR) overlay visible through smart contacts and accessible via smart clothing. Robert, a relic from an analog past, struggles to adapt to this 'digital consensus reality' while living with his tech-savvy granddaughter, Miri, and his high-ranking military son and daughter-in-law. Forced to re-educate himself at Fairmont High alongside other 're-trainees,' Robert inadvertently stumbles into a dangerous, sophisticated conspiracy exploiting the pervasive digital infrastructure for world domination. As he navigates this new landscape, grappling with his poetic identity and the technological divide, he becomes embroiled in a plot that threatens not only his family but the very nature of human knowledge, culminating in a dramatic protest against the digital eradication of physical books worldwide.
