Synopsis

In Lawrence Block's chilling novel, "A Walk Among the Tombstones," former NYPD detective Matt Scudder, now an unlicensed private investigator, is drawn into a morally ambiguous world when he accepts a case from drug trafficker Kenan Khoury. Khoury's wife was brutally abducted, a ransom paid, only for her dismembered remains to be returned in the trunk of an abandoned car. Unable to approach the police due to his illicit dealings, Khoury turns to Scudder for justice. Scudder, still haunted by his own past demons, delves into the grim underworld of New York City, uncovering a terrifying pattern of kidnappings and dismemberments targeting the wives of wealthy, often criminal, men. He soon realizes he's pursuing not just two ruthless killers, but a pair of highly intelligent and sadistic psychopaths whose escalating brutality knows no bounds. As Scudder races against time, he must confront the depths of human depravity while navigating his own fractured morality to stop these monsters before they claim another innocent life.
