Djinn Patrol on the Purple Line

Synopsis

In the bustling, labyrinthine slums of an Indian city, nine-year-old Jai, an avid viewer of reality crime shows, fancies himself a budding detective. His world, a vibrant tapestry of street life and childhood games, is abruptly shattered when a classmate vanishes without a trace. Inspired by his TV heroes, Jai, with his sharp-witted friend Pari and the slightly older Faiz, embarks on his own investigation. Their amateur sleuthing leads them through the city's hidden alleyways, crowded bazaars, and eventually to the desolate railway station at the end of the Purple Line, a place steeped in local legends of 'soul-snatching djinns.' As more children disappear, the trio faces the indifference of the adult world – terrified parents, an apathetic police force, and the crushing weight of systemic neglect. Through Jai's innocent yet insightful eyes, the novel paints a poignant picture of childhood resilience against a backdrop of poverty, superstition, and the grim reality of missing persons, questioning what it truly means to be lost and found.

Critical Reception
