Synopsis

In C. J. Box's 'Storm Watch,' Wyoming Game Warden Joe Pickett finds himself embroiled in a chilling new mystery when a routine elk hunt in a remote, snow-swept wilderness takes a grim turn. He discovers not only the abandoned vehicle of a prominent University of Wyoming professor, but also the professor's brutally mutilated and frozen body. As Joe begins to investigate, he encounters immediate and forceful obstruction from federal agents, powerful political figures, and shadowy extremist groups, suggesting a conspiracy far larger than a simple murder. Meanwhile, Joe's long-time friend, Nate Romanowski, is rebuilding his life and falconry business through crypto mining. He's approached by a burgeoning, radical militant group advocating for Wyoming's secession from the Union, by force if necessary. Nate is wary, unsure if he's being recruited or set up. As an epic spring storm descends, bringing both natural and political peril, Joe and Nate find themselves on potentially opposing sides, navigating a treacherous landscape of lies, violence, and shifting loyalties, all while the fate of their state hangs in the balance.
