Synopsis

Tribune Marcus Scaurus, a battle-hardened commander of a Roman legion, finds his world irrevocably altered when his entire contingent is inexplicably ripped from ancient Earth and deposited into a realm governed by arcane magic and ancient empires. This new land is Videssos, a Byzantine-inspired civilization teetering on the brink of collapse. Its throne has been usurped by the treacherous Ortaias Sphrantzes, who ruthlessly employed dark sorcery to murder the rightful Emperor. Disoriented but resolute, Scaurus must navigate a world where Roman discipline and engineering clash dramatically with potent magic, shape-shifting creatures, and unforeseen political machinations. As the Roman legion, famed for its order and martial prowess, confronts a chaotic landscape of magical warfare and divine interference, Scaurus is compelled to challenge Sphrantzes. He grapples with the imperative to survive, to uphold Roman honor, and potentially, to restore balance to a fractured empire that is not his own, all while seeking a way back to a home that may no longer exist.
