Synopsis

In a future where psychoanalysts, known as Mindplayers, can directly link to patients' minds via sophisticated neural technology, Allie is a sensation-seeking young woman drawn to illicit thrills. Her friend, Jerry Wirerammer, introduces her to a 'madcap' – a device promising a temporary, harmless experience of psychosis. However, the madcap malfunctions, trapping Allie in a persistent state of psychosis. Facing a choice between jail for her illegal activities or training to become a Mindplayer herself, Allie enters the 'dry-cleaner' treatment facility. During her intense training, she encounters the 'Pool,' a shared, shifting mental landscape, and the enigmatic McFlor, whose adult body houses a mind just hours old due to a mind-wipe. As a newly qualified Mindplayer, Allie must navigate the specialized fields available to her, from Reality Affixing and Pathosfinding to Thrillseeking and Dreamfeeding, as she grapples with the profound implications of her new reality and the power she now wields over the human psyche.
