Synopsis

Ten years have passed since FitzChivalry Farseer faked his own death and retreated into the quiet life of Tom Badgerlock, a simple cot-keeper living in self-imposed exile. His peace is shattered when a mysterious hedge-witch delivers a chilling prophecy: a long-lost love will return, but only if Fitz abandons his sanctuary and returns to the dangerous political machinations of Buckkeep Castle. The summons comes from his former mentor, Chade, who desperately needs Fitz's unique skills as a Witted assassin and Farseer heir. Prince Dutiful, heir to the Six Duchies, is bound by an ancient, perilous pact to marry a Narcheska of the Outislands, a union critical for peace. Fitz, now forced to resume his role as royal assassin and advisor, must navigate treacherous court intrigues, rekindle his complex bond with the enigmatic Fool, and confront the ghosts of his past, all while an insidious anti-magic faction known as the Piebalds threatens to unravel the kingdom. This is a tale of duty, sacrifice, and the enduring, often painful, burden of love and loyalty.

Critical Reception

"As the highly anticipated return of FitzChivalry Farseer, "Fool's Errand" was lauded by critics for its masterful character development and emotionally resonant narrative, solidifying Robin Hobb's place as a titan of contemporary fantasy."
