Synopsis

On the harsh desert planet of Austar IV, dragons are not mythical beasts but a brutal reality – bred and trained for deadly arena combat. Fifteen-year-old Jakkin stewarts young dragons in the pits, dreaming of escape from his life of servitude. His only hope lies in a daring, forbidden gamble: steal a hatchling, secretly raise it, and train it to be a champion fighter, earning him enough money to buy his freedom. Jakkin names his stolen dragon Heart's Blood, forming an unbreakable bond as they navigate the harsh realities of their world. But success in the fighting pits comes with its own perils, attracting the attention of powerful and dangerous forces. Jakkin and Heart's Blood must not only survive the arena but also confront the cruel system that enslaves both dragons and humans, leading them on a perilous journey towards an uncertain future, where freedom is the ultimate, most dangerous prize.
