Synopsis

Set against the backdrop of one of Japan's deadliest air disasters, Hideo Yokoyama's "Seventeen" masterfully weaves a dual-timeline narrative exploring trauma, responsibility, and the ethics of journalism. In 1985, veteran reporter Kazumasa Yuuki finds himself embroiled in the petty office politics and power struggles of the North Kanto Times. However, when a catastrophic plane crash devastates the region, the newsroom is thrust into an unprecedented and emotionally charged seven-day scramble for the scoop of a lifetime. The disaster unites the staff, forcing them to confront unimaginable horror while simultaneously grappling with the immense pressure to report the truth. Seventeen years later, in 2003, Yuuki is haunted by the events of that week. He embarks on a journey to fulfill a promise made during the aftermath, hoping to unravel the last unresolved mystery stemming from the tragedy and confront his own lingering fears. This gripping investigative thriller delves deep into the human cost of disaster and the relentless pursuit of truth.
