Synopsis

In 'Love from Hell,' M. C. Beaton plunges amateur sleuth Agatha Raisin into her most personal and perplexing case yet, as her newly-wedded bliss with James Lacey swiftly devolves into a marital nightmare. The honeymoon is unequivocally over, replaced by bitter quarrels, James's wandering affections, and Agatha's famously disastrous domestic skills. But their domestic strife takes a dark turn when, shortly after a very public and vitriolic argument, James vanishes without a trace. The situation escalates dramatically when his mistress is found brutally murdered, instantly casting James as the prime suspect in a crime that shocks the quaint Cotswolds village. Despite his undeniable flaws – his deceit, his evasiveness, and his general scoundrel nature – Agatha staunchly refuses to believe her husband is capable of murder. With local gossip implicating her in James's disappearance, the fiercely independent and ever-feisty Agatha must put aside her personal feelings and delve into the unsavory past of the deceased woman. To clear James’s name, and more importantly, her own tarnished reputation, Agatha embarks on a dangerous investigation, navigating a web of secrets, lies, and small-town animosity, proving that even a love-hate relationship can inspire a determined pursuit of justice.
