«Until a man is twenty-five, he still thinks, however unconsciously, that he can make a dash for freedom at any time. If he doesn't make it then, he is doomed to a life of safety.»

«Humans are amphibians — half in half out of the water — and in a sense that is what our literature is about. We are forever trying to understand the two elements in which we live.»

«Every now and then, I have to pinch myself to make sure I'm not dreaming. But usually I don't bother, because if I am dreaming, I don't want to wake up.»
