Boris Akunin (born Grigori Shalvovich Chkhartishvili in 1956 in Zestafoni, Georgian SSR) is a highly acclaimed Russian writer, literary critic, and translator. Before becoming a full-time author, he was a prominent Japanologist and editor-in-chief of the foreign literature magazine "Inostrannaya Literatura." He rose to international fame with his Erast Fandorin series of historical detective novels, which masterfully blend intricate plots with meticulously researched historical backdrops of Imperial Russia.
