Synopsis

Amidst the tumultuous 1877 Russo-Ottoman War, the brilliant former diplomat and detective Erast Fandorin finds himself on the Bulgarian front, thrust into his most perplexing case yet. The battlefield, rife with cavalry charges and cannon fire, becomes the backdrop for a high-stakes game of espionage. Fandorin's investigation is complicated by the presence of Varya Suvorova, a fiercely independent revolutionary disguised as a man, desperately searching for her fiancé, Pyotr Yablokov, an army cryptographer. Despite her initial disdain for Fandorin, whom she views as a symbol of the establishment, Varya is forced to seek his help when Yablokov is accused of treason. As they navigate a labyrinth of political intrigue and military deception, Fandorin's sharp intellect and courage are put to the ultimate test. Their unlikely alliance forces Varya to reconsider her judgments, revealing the true culprit and solidifying Fandorin's reputation as a legendary detective.
