Born in Osaka, Japan in 1958, Keigo Higashino initially pursued a career as an engineer, graduating from Osaka Prefecture University with a degree in Electrical Engineering. He worked for Denso Corporation before making his literary debut in 1985 with "Hōkago" (After School), which earned him the prestigious Edogawa Rampo Prize for mystery fiction. This success prompted him to become a full-time writer in 1986. Higashino is one of Japan's most prolific and best-selling authors, having penned over 80 novels, short story collections, and essays.
