Helene Wecker is an American novelist celebrated for her unique blend of fantasy, historical fiction, and folklore. Born in 1970, she grew up in Maryland and pursued her education at Carleton College, where she earned a BA in English, and Columbia University, where she completed an MFA in Fiction. Before her literary breakthrough, Wecker held various positions, including freelance writing and working in publishing. Her debut novel, "The Golem and the Jinni" (2013), quickly garnered critical acclaim and became a New York Times bestseller. This novel intricately weaves together Jewish mysticism and Arabian mythology in 19th-century New York City, exploring themes of identity, belonging, and cultural adaptation. She continued this narrative with its sequel, "The Hidden Palace" (2021). Wecker's writing is distinguished by its vivid historical detail, richly imagined magical elements, and profound character exploration. She currently resides in the San Francisco Bay Area.
