Synopsis

Mark, Todd, and Zola are third-year law students who, after racking up insurmountable debt from exorbitant tuition fees, come to a shocking realization: their school is a sham. Foggy Bottom Law School is so abysmal that its graduates rarely pass the bar exam or secure reputable jobs. The architect of this fraud is a cunning hedge fund manager who also conveniently owns the bank specializing in their student loans, effectively trapping them in a financial snare. Faced with crippling debt and a worthless degree, the trio uncovers a daring, albeit reckless, plan to escape their predicament, expose the elaborate scam, and perhaps even turn a profit. Their audacious scheme requires them to drop out of law school just months before graduation, a move that could either liberate them or lead to complete ruin. Navigating a treacherous legal landscape, they must gather evidence, outwit powerful adversaries, and make morally ambiguous choices to fight back against the system that exploited them, all while trying to find justice and a future beyond the clutches of "The Rooster Bar."

Critical Reception

"John Grisham's 'The Rooster Bar' stands as a timely and incisive legal thriller, offering a scathing critique of predatory higher education and student loan systems that resonated widely with readers."
