Synopsis

In a chilling and seemingly impossible crime, wealthy Avory Hume is found dead, an arrow piercing his heart, within a study sealed from the inside by bolted steel shutters and a locked door. The only other person in the room is James Caplon Answell, unconscious and disheveled, suggesting a violent struggle. Answell, Hume's prospective son-in-law, is immediately implicated, and the case falls to the gruff but brilliant Sir Henry Merrivale to defend him. However, the trial takes a shocking turn when Answell himself dramatically confesses his guilt in court. Refusing to believe his client, Sir Henry faces a formidable challenge: to unravel a crime where all evidence, including the accused's own words, points to guilt. Merrivale must employ his explosive intellect and meticulous detective skills to piece together the truth behind the 'Judas Window' and reconstruct the crime before a stunned Old Bailey, proving that even the most ironclad circumstantial evidence can be deceiving.

Critical Reception

"Acclaimed as one of the definitive locked-room mysteries, 'The Judas Window' stands as a masterclass in impossible crime fiction, celebrated by critics and authors alike."
