Synopsis

Mary, adrift and plagued by inexplicable chronic pain, finds herself at a crossroads. Desperate for a solution, she accepts an unusual offer: to become part of 'The Girlfriend Experiment,' a controversial project orchestrated by a renowned, enigmatic actor. Her role? The 'Emotional Girlfriend.' Alongside a curated cast of women embodying various facets of a relationship – the Maternal, the Mundane, the Angry, and even an Intimacy Team – Mary navigates the performative and increasingly blurred lines between role-playing and reality. Each woman carries her own baggage of debts, heartbreaks, and hidden struggles, making the experiment a crucible of vulnerability and expectation. As Mary delves deeper into the manufactured intimacy with the actor, the nature of the project shifts, exposing the participants to unforeseen emotional perils, not least of which is the bewildering possibility of genuine connection and love in an entirely artificial construct.
